Privacy Policy

Marriage is deeply personal, and so is the information you share with us. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, how we protect it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over your data.

Last updated: 21 August 2026 Applies to: muslimmarriagecounselling.com

A note on our current stage

Muslim Marriage Counselling has not yet launched. At present the only personal information we collect from visitors is the email address submitted to our waitlist, together with standard technical data generated by visiting a website. Sections of this policy that describe counselling records apply from the point the service opens, and this policy will be updated before then.

1. Who we are

Muslim Marriage Counselling ("we", "us", "our") operates the website at muslimmarriagecounselling.com. We are a venture of AskMuftiOnline, building an online marriage and relationship guidance service for Muslims.

For the purposes of data-protection law, the data controller responsible for your personal information is AskMuftiOnline. You can contact us at any time at support@muslimmarriagecounselling.com.

2. Scope of this policy

This policy applies to personal information we collect through this website, through the waitlist form, and through email correspondence with us. It does not apply to AskMuftiOnline or to any other website we link to, each of which has its own privacy practices.

3. Information we collect

3.1 Information you give us

  • Waitlist details — the email address you submit to be notified when we launch.
  • Correspondence — your name, email address and the contents of any message you send us, including enquiries and feedback.
  • Counselling information (from launch) — when the service opens, information you provide in order to receive guidance, which may include your name, contact details, and the details you choose to share about your marriage and circumstances.

3.2 Information collected automatically

  • Technical data — IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, language and referring page.
  • Usage data — pages viewed, time spent, and how you navigate the site, where analytics are in use.
  • Server logs — routine records generated by our hosting provider for security, diagnostics and abuse prevention.

3.3 Sensitive information

Information about religious belief, health or a person's sex life is treated as a special category of personal data under laws such as the UK and EU GDPR. Once counselling begins, some of what you share may fall into these categories. We will only process such information where you have given explicit consent or where another lawful basis applies, and we will handle it with additional care. Please do not send us sensitive personal details through the waitlist form or unencrypted email before the service launches.

4. How we use your information

  • To add you to our waitlist and notify you when the service launches
  • To respond to your enquiries and correspondence
  • To operate, maintain, secure and improve this website
  • To understand, in aggregate, which content is useful to visitors
  • To provide counselling and related support once the service opens, and to keep appropriate records of it
  • To prevent, detect and investigate fraud, abuse and security incidents
  • To comply with legal, regulatory and safeguarding obligations

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your details with advertisers, and we do not use your marital or personal circumstances for marketing.

5. Lawful bases for processing

Where the UK or EU GDPR applies, we rely on the following lawful bases:

6. Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small files placed on your device by a website. This site is designed to be light on tracking:

  • Essential cookies may be used to keep the site secure and functioning correctly.
  • Analytics cookies may be used to understand aggregate visitor behaviour so we can improve the content. Where required by law, these are only set with your consent.
  • Advertising cookies are not used on this site.

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may affect how parts of the site work. Where a consent banner is shown, you can change your preferences at any time by clearing your cookies and reloading the page.

This site loads fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to Google's servers when you visit. Google may process your IP address as part of serving those files. See Google's own privacy notice for details.

7. Sharing and disclosure

We share personal information only where it is necessary, and only with parties bound to protect it:

  • Service providers — hosting, email delivery, form processing, analytics and security providers acting on our instructions.
  • Our parent platform — AskMuftiOnline, where it operates shared infrastructure on our behalf.
  • Professional advisers — lawyers, accountants and insurers where reasonably required.
  • Legal and safety disclosures — where we are required by law, or where there is a serious risk of harm to you or another person, including a child or vulnerable adult.
  • Business transfers — if the service is restructured or transferred, your data may move with it under equivalent protection.

We never sell, rent or trade personal data.

8. International transfers

Our providers may store or process data in countries outside your own. Where personal data is transferred internationally, we take steps to ensure it remains protected by appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses or transfers to countries recognised as providing adequate protection.

9. How long we keep your data

  • Waitlist emails — until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them, or until a reasonable period after launch if the list is no longer needed.
  • Correspondence — usually no longer than two years after our last exchange, unless a longer period is required.
  • Technical and server logs — typically a short period for security and diagnostics.
  • Counselling records (from launch) — for the period required by professional standards, insurance and applicable law, which will be stated in our service terms.

When data is no longer needed, we delete it or anonymise it securely.

10. How we protect your data

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal information, including encryption of data in transit (HTTPS), restricted access on a need-to-know basis, reputable infrastructure providers, and a policy of collecting only what we need. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach occurs that is likely to result in a risk to your rights, we will notify you and any relevant regulator as required by law.

11. Your data-protection rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct data that is inaccurate or incomplete
  • Delete your data where there is no overriding reason to keep it
  • Restrict or object to certain processing
  • Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing already carried out
  • Portability — receive your data in a portable format
  • Complain to your local data-protection authority

To exercise any of these rights, email support@muslimmarriagecounselling.com. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law, normally one month. We may need to verify your identity first. You can leave the waitlist at any time by using the unsubscribe link in our email or by contacting us directly.

12. Confidentiality of counselling

From launch, what you share in counselling will be treated as confidential and used only to provide and support your guidance. Confidentiality will not be absolute — as with any responsible service, it may be limited where there is a serious risk of harm to you or another person, where a child or vulnerable adult may be at risk, or where disclosure is required by law. These limits, along with how records are kept and who can access them, will be set out in full in our service terms before the service opens.

13. Children's privacy

This website and our services are intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

14. Third-party links

Our site links to other websites, including AskMuftiOnline and external support services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites, and we encourage you to read their privacy policies.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service develops, particularly before launch. The "last updated" date at the top of the page always reflects the current version. Where changes are significant, we will take reasonable steps to notify people on our waitlist.
